CURTAIN WALL SYSTEMS
At Extralum we specialize in building facade systems tailored to each project.
The curtain wall as a system, also called a light facade, can be defined as the self-supporting external envelope made up of linear elements, joined together and anchored to the main structure of the building. Curtain walls are built by repeating prefabricated elements, including protection, opening, and accessibility.
The components of a curtain wall are as follows:
Structural elements
Filler elements; practicable or fixed
Light facades, or curtain walls, are generally designed in the form of a grid, so their structural elements can be divided into vertical and horizontal, commonly called studs and crossbars, respectively.
Design factors and functionality in curtain walls
Light facades must have certain elements so that they can function properly and offer excellent benefits to the building:
Resistance to horizontal forces to which it will be subjected
Resistance to deformations of the main structure.
Ability to evacuate atmospheric water.
Thermal isolation.
Solar protection.
Acoustic isolation.
The Extralum systems for lightweight facades are made of aluminum, differing mainly in three groups according to their construction configuration:

STICK CURTAIN WALL SYSTEM
These curtain wall systems are the most traditional and are composed of the juxtaposition of profiles, consisting of vertical structural elements called mullions and horizontal structural elements called transoms, which are connected to each other and anchored to the main structure of the buildings through anchors. It is characterized by first making the structure and finally placing the glass.
The Integrated System is also called “Stick” because in its manufacture long pieces of aluminum are inserted, vertical between the floors, and horizontal between the vertical members to support and transfer the load of the glass to the structure.
Most of the construction and glass assembly for an Integrated System is done on-site. One of its benefits is the ease of use, very economical for facades that have lower volumes required under complicated conditions

Exoglass Curtain Wall Series 2
It is a self-supporting glass and aluminum façade, where the elements are joined horizontally and vertically to form a structure assembled on site and anchored to the existing main structure.
This structure must correspond to a vertical and horizontal spacing adequate for resistance to wind and seismic loads, to which every facade is exposed.
This system consists of a vertical and horizontal profile composed of two profiles.
The appearance of the facade can be with exposed or concealed aluminum profiles.

BIG DIMENSIONS
The Extralum curtain wall optimizes solutions for commercial, institutional, or residential buildings, both in new construction and renovation, always with the safety of our safety glass or DVH.

APPLICATIONS DIVERSITY
We have different modulations depending on the needs of the project, such as superimposed studs and crossbars, horizontal and vertical lines, and flat or curved tops.
AIRTIGHTNESS
It has good sealing and airtightness, high-quality EPDM gaskets, great acoustic insulation, and low thermal transmittance.

Unitized Curtain Wall
Extralum is a pioneer in Central America in the installation of Unitized Curtain Walls.
The unitized modular facade is an open system with enormous possibilities for evolution. Always taking into account the appearance of innovative materials or productive advances that allow architects to develop new solutions.
From the structural point of view, it must be borne in mind that the unitized modular facade behaves like any other facade. Although it must be considered that the modular element behaves independently and must be calculated to withstand the different efforts to which it will be subjected. The unitized modular system is undoubtedly the most suitable when it comes to projects with a large area.
The unitized curtain wall system can be installed a third of the time compared to an integrated or stick system. It is very suitable for when a large volume of prefabricated unitized panels is required; where there are higher on-site labor costs that can be made more efficient with factory labor costs; where higher performance is needed to avoid wind, air and moisture damage, seismic performance or explosion; as well as for taller structures and more regular conditions for panel optimization.
We have executed the Torre Universal and Torre Leumi Business Center projects with this Curtain Wall System.

BIG DIMENSIONS
It is ideal for very tall structures where a large volume of prefabricated parts is required. Since the performance and efficiency of the material is much more demanding due to the height, safety glass or DVH is always used.

Applications of the Unitized Wall System:
This system can be installed in applications such as commercial buildings.
Characteristics of the Unitized Curtain Wall System:
Unitized modular curtain wall systems are made up of large glass units that are assembled directly at the factory. Once on site, the units are connected to anchors already attached to the building. For the efficient use of this system, wind loads, humidity protection and anti-seismic efficiency must be taken into account
One of the benefits of using a Unitized System is:
- Allows a more agile installation than the “stick” system.
- Installation costs can be reduced as it allows cost savings on mounting aids.
- Less risk of glass breakage.
Among the glasses that can be used are:
It supports monolithic, laminated, and hermetic double-glazed glass configurations.
Monolithic: 6mm and 8 mm.
FUERTEX safety glass thicknesses: 6 and 8 mm
DVH thicknesses: 6/11.5/6 -6/11.5/8-8/6.5/8 mm.
VILAX laminated glass 66.1 – 68.1 – 66.4 – 68.4.
Aluminum Technical Specifications:
Alloy AA-6063 T5 hardening and architectural finish primary billet
Modulus of elasticity 69,000 N/mm2
